Sorry, no line but she has two telephone poles on her land!

SUNGAI BULOH, SELANGOR, Feb 13

She has two telephone poles on her land, but ironically Izan, a freelance writer and mother of four, does not have a telephone in her house in Kampung Damai, Kuang.

"They told me there is no line available but Telekom Malaysia (TM) actually erected two telephone cable poles on my land," she said.

Tired of being told "there is no line yet", Izan is fast losing her patience and is now considering charging TM rental for the poles.

When she enquired about the two cable poles on her land when TM has no lines for her, Izan claimed she was told that the company was not aware that the land was hers.

"My land actually borders the road plied by vehicles daily. To give room to pedestrians, I had my fence brought back five metres away from the road," she said. It is on that land that TM had erected the poles.

However, Izan insisted that it does not mean that TM can just erect poles without her consent.

Izan also claimed that when she brought up the matter to TM, she was promised the issue would be looked into.

"But that was four years ago and I have not heard anything since," she said.

She had thought that perhaps TM had no budget to provide lines for residents in the area but when her immediate neighbours have fixed lines installed, Izan is annoyed as her home is not far from the city.

"In this day and age, telephone is a necessity. I cannot have Internet access even for my school-going children because I don’t have a telephone line," she said.

"There are occasions when I have to be away hours at a time and I cannot leave my children at home and not be able to call to check if they are all right. It’s the same if they need to call me."

TM could not explain why the two cable poles were erected on Izan’s land without her consent.

TM’s senior vice president of TM Retail — Customer Service, Romli Hussin, said the company recently informed Izan that Wireless Homeline is available.

"The benefits and call charges are the same as our normal Homeline. However, we are still trying to provide the customer with a normal Homeline soon," he said.
